IES Assessments for State-Tested Content Areas

Instructional effectiveness initiatives call for the use of reliable, valid, and standards-aligned assessment tools to measure student growth in state-tested content areas and to inform educational decision-making.
IES Solutions
To address this need, the Galileo IES contains valid, reliable student pretest-posttest assessment pairs in math, reading/English language arts, science, and writing for K-12. These assessments can be used both to measure student growth and to inform instructional decision-making.
• In addition to the pretest-posttest assessment, Galileo benchmark customized and comprehensive assessments currently in use by districts and charter schools continue to play an important role in local school district instructional effectiveness assessment initiatives by providing continuous information on progress that can be used to adjust instructional and professional development activities while there is time to make a difference in student achievement.
• Item Response Theory (IRT) item parameters (item difficulty, discrimination and guessing) are generated for pre-post and benchmark assessments. Moreover, ATI uses IRT to place these assessments on a common scale. This ensures that the assessments will be reflective of student progress over time, can be used to inform instruction and can accurately forecast performance on statewide tests.
• Reporting on Galileo assessments includes both value-added and categorical growth data.
